    Description

Thanks for checking out this listing!
The vital statistics: one 1886-R Italy 1 lire coin; KM# 24.1; silver 0.8350 fineness, 5 g (0.175 oz) weight, actual silver weight 0.1342 troy oz, 23 mm (0.91 in) diameter.
Both pairs of images were made in the same location under the same light.  Only the background changed.  I have found that a white background for some reason provides better image resolution, though it gives silver coins a misleading golden hue.

    Interpretation:
FERT was the motto of the house of Savoy, adopted by King Vittorio Amedeo II (1666-1732). It is thought to be an acronym, though what it stands for have been lost to time. Theories include:
    1. Foedere Et Religione Tenemur (Latin, ?treaty and religion bind us?)
    2. Fortitudo Eius Rempublicam Tenet (Latin, ?his bravery [or strength] preserves [or defends] the state?)
    3. Fides Est Regni Tutela (Latin, ?faith is the protector of [our] kingdom?)
Another theory suggests that it is in fact the Latin word fert, the third-person singular present active indicative of ferre (Meaning he/she/it suffers/bears), in reference to Jesus bearing the sins of the world.
This coin is in strong very fine condition.  Details of the coin's designs are clear & distinct.  Wear is visible on the coin's highest surfaces.  The reverse coat of arms looks to be in extremely fine condition.
